One Piece TCG Rarities: Which Cards Are Worth Money?
Two cards with the same character and the same card number can cost €0.07 and several hundred euros respectively. The difference is the version. Here is how to tell them apart.
Where is the rarity?
At the bottom right of the card is the card number, e.g. OP05-119, and right next to it a letter for the rarity: C, UC, R, SR, SEC, L, SP or P.
The common ones
- C (Common) and UC (Uncommon): there are lots of them in every pack. Almost always bulk, i.e. cents to a euro or two.
- R (Rare): one or two per pack. Normally a euro or two, but an R card that is played in all the strongest decks can cost more.
The ones that can be worth something
- SR (Super Rare) has foil. The price mostly depends on whether the card is played in the meta.
- L (Leader): the regular leader is cheap, but alternative versions can be expensive.
- SEC (Secret Rare) is the set's top card. Typically from about €2 and up to several tens of euros.
The rare versions
- Alt art / Parallel: the same card with a different illustration, often borderless and with extra foil. Often many times the price of the regular version.
- SP (Special): an older card in a new, beautiful version that appears in a newer set. Often tens of euros.
- TR (Treasure Rare): an extra-rare version with a gold look.
- Manga: drawn like a page from the manga. The rarest version in a booster and often the most expensive. Some cost hundreds of euros.
- DON!! cards: the regular ones are free in every pack, but DON!! with special artwork and gold versions have collector value.
Promo cards
Promos (P) come from events, store tournaments, new set previews and special products. Many are stamped "NOT FOR SALE". The price varies a lot. Ordinary participation cards are cheap, but winner cards and anniversary cards can be worth a lot.
Same card, several printings
A card can return in new sets as reprints. Reprints have the same number but are typically cheaper. When you check the price, it is therefore important to know exactly which printing you have. That is what Piratbinder helps with when you scan.
